Peter Pierson

Humanities

Peter’s diverse background runs from emergency medicine in remote arctic Alaska,

to writing and producing personal essay for public radio in Minnesota and Canada,

firefighting, nonprofit communications and development, and instruction in the

Outward Bound system. A one-time Minnesota Regional Arts Council/McKnight

Fellow, his nonfiction has been published in regional and national press and

produced for broadcast for Northern (Minnesota) Community Radio and CBC-Radio

1 in Canada. In addition to his work in the Outward Bound system, his teaching

experience includes university-level instruction in a variety of academic and

experiential (recreational) arenas, classroom experience in grades 2-12, and

community education. Peter has been active throughout his life in community and

political arenas and was a 2016 candidate for a seat in the Arizona State House.

Peter holds a BA in Political Science and Economics, an MA from Prescott College in

Environmental Communications, and extensive graduate work in Experiential

Education/Educational Psychology.

Fun Fact(s): Peter has hiked the 44-mile, 11,000-foot elevation gain/loss Grand

Canyon Rim-2-Rim-2-Rim four times the last ten years; and, as a remote mobile

intensive care paramedic, flown over 150,000 miles of critical care air ambulance

flights in remote Interior and Bering Straight regions of Alaska.
