Karla Schaeffer

Professional Development

& Curriculum Coordinator

Karla first came to the KCA community as a parent, After her son graduated in 2015, she stayed involved as a volunteer and joined the staff in 2017 as a humanities teacher, curriculum coordinator, and instructional coach. Karla earned a BA in English from The University of Iowa and an MLA from Baker University. She is a National Board Certified Teacher with 30 years’ high school classroom experience in the Liberty Public Schools before coming to KCA. Karla ascribes absolutely to the Loretto philosophy of the unique worth and contributions of each individual, and her passion is helping young people understand the connections among and relevance of the humanities.

 

Karla enjoys reading, watching sports (especially hockey, Royals’ baseball, and college football), and spending time with friends and family, including her grown children and two rescue dogs.
