Welcome to Kansas City Academy.
Our school was founded by educators who believe in creative, student-centered
education. We embrace the uniqueness and worth of each individual... ...we prepare
learners for responsible participation in their society ...and we encourage learning as a lifelong process.
Responsible freedom is a core concept at KCA. Students are empowered to act or
speak and think without overly imposed external restraints... ...because we trust them to become responsible
as they learn to use good judgment and sound thinking in all aspects of their lives and education.
Kansas City Academy students are involved in the governance of the school.
They serve on the Board of Directors... ...they participate in the hiring process of teachers and staff ...
they provide thoughts on curriculum ...and they serve on the Faculty Discipline Committee in a full
capacity as decision-makers.
One of KCA’s major strengths is the diversity of our student
body... ...diversity in the traditional sense and the diversity of independent, critical thinking that is a
hallmark of the Academy’s mission. As an alumnus now attending Bard College said, "We were never taught what to think. We were taught how to think."
The KCA staff and I are committed to continue the Academy’s mission in a creative
and holistic approach that values the uniqueness and worth of each student and prepares them for university,
college, and work life as compassionate, productive members and leaders of their community.
I invite you to explore the many ways that Kansas City Academy can inspire your
student to succeed.
